Low Light Conditions Photos Without Using A Flash

Very useful tips found in DPS blog while googling. Amazing how much you can learn on the internet these days.

"As someone who shoots a ton of low light, no flash concert photography, I feel you hit on two key points, but left out a THIRD KEY POINT, which is FAST LENSES!!!"

For me, when I’m absolutely desperate for light without a flash, I use this technique:

1. Crank ISO as high as it will go
2. Shoot RAW if possible
3. Use aperature-priority with the lowest f-stop on the fastest lens I have (f1.8 or lower if you can).
4. If that still caases my shutter speeds to be too low to hand-hold, then I might even set exposure compensation down a stop, which will increase the speed a little, and then I’ll push the exposure in post (preferablly in RAW).
5. Lastly, I’ll use various forms of noise reduction to help on the grain/noise front."

Flora Mini Marathon 2008 - some shots of cute kids, 10s of thousands of running ladies and hundreds of ugly cross-dressers

At least 5 of these images were brightness-corrected in photoshop - due to direct sun-facing shots .. hmm... need more exercise.

some of the 1st outdoor shots taken with my newly owned D80,

under-shaded mode in D80 will set the colour temperature to compensate the light condition - BUT if used unnecessarily will caused red-dish finish - may accidentally look nice like Aiden's potrait below.

I'va always been a fan of a proper SLR (dLSR now) and a bit of a pussy to get one for myself. Which was the reason I have a bridge camera. Upon days of office hour research, wallet resizing and online shop hunting, I went for the 07 release Sony H7.

Yes2 I've read all about the pros & cons b4 buying the camera, but with generous 31mm-465mm zoom, 2.7max aperture plus with some price cut online, I find this camera perfect for me at the time.

Until recently, a close friend had bought the new EOS450D - sweet!! Of course - my natural emotional reaction would be jaki, jealous, inferior and greedy - then I decided to be loyal and grateful of my H7. There's still lots more to be explored b4 I can ugrade myself to dSLR level.
